DIY Fabric Covered TOMS Tutorial

My first tutorial!!!! And I'm not even using my sewing machine ;) Original idea came from Pinterest, of course. Image HERE.

Ok, first you need to gather your supplies. Here is what I used:

E6000 - I used this because it's flexible and waterproof.
Tiny scissors - makes trimming close to the sole much easier
Fabric scraps
Optional embellishments - I used embroidery floss and buttons


Go ahead and first repair any holes. I did this really sloppily and probably should have put some interfacing or a patch over this.....but I did not, so we'll see if my fabric and poor repair job hold up.





Then stuff your shoe with anything. I used some extra fabric I had lying around. This didn't get any glue on it, so use whatever as long as you are careful.





Ok, next I placed a large scrap over the top of my TOMS in the same shape that was already there. Make sure you use a generous amount because you will be wrapping this around the toe.







Cover the area in E6000. I do an outline and then fill in. Get really far down next to the rubber sole.



Let the glue dry for a minute so that it's nice and tacky. Then place your fabric on the glue and push the extra fabric toward the toe. This doesn't have to be perfect.....especially since that's how the TOMS toe looks anyway. Run your finger over the edge of the shoe next to the sole really really well. Let this dry for a few minutes.



Next grab another scrap of fabric and make sure it fits along the shoe. Place your glue over-top of the existing fabric by at least 1/8 inch. You will want to do this because as you walk the fabric will shift and you don't want there to be any spaces. But, if that does happen you can just add a little ribbon like I did :)






Lay your next strip down and repeat steps above. Also, you'll want to make sure you have the same pieces cut out for your other shoe so they will be the same.





On the side where the TOMS tag is I cut little slits in the fabric so it would slide easily behind the tag.



That's it!!! I added a line of stitches to the front and a row of buttons on the back. I didn't mess with the back too much because that is where mine wrinkle the most and I wasn't sure how that would work. And I like having a little of the original shoe showing :)











I've worn them around all day and this is how they still look!!!
